Do you have a room in your home that just bugs you? That has been our living room lately for me. I could’t put my finger on what was bugging me until one day I looked around and noticed the whole room was brown. Brown carpet, brown rug, brown coffee table, brown entertainment center, brown pillows, even a brown dog. Ummm, I won’t even tell you what all the brown reminds me of. So, I changed it. I’m slowly changing it all. I guess I had just been avoiding the living room while I was working on other rooms in the house. I had to get that off my chest. Alas we reach the point of this blog post. The point is this, I bought a cute little paint for my newly painted coffee table {more on that later}, but just know that if you buy a plant this time of year & you want to purchase a planter for it & you live in a small town, this may be a difficult task for you. Last night I went from store to store in the rain looking for a pretty planter for my new plant. You see, I have a problem when I want something I go after it until I find it. I’m hardcore like that. Well, my last stop was Pier One. The store associate looked at me like I had 4 eyes when I asked for a planter as we stood surrounded by christmas trees & snowmen figurines, so I went off looking around the store by myself. I found no planters, actually that’s a lie. I found a planter with a big Buddha attached to it. Not my thing. I then came upon some discarded clearance items when I spotted an old ice bucket. I stared at the ice bucket for a second & instantly pictured my lovely little plant sitting in it. The rest is history…
You may be distracted by that sweet little baby face in this post, don’t worry, it happens. That’s the sweet face of our Goddaughter who we love so very much. Isn’t she a doll? Anyways back to the ice bucket. There it is! Now, the coffee table is not styled exactly how I want it, but I love that ice bucket so much as a planter.
As far as the “DIY” portion of this planter, I literally just stuck the potted plant {Arrowhead Philodendron} that I purchased from our local greenhouse. inside of the ice bucket & threw the lid somewhere in a cupboard to join my hoard of unnecessary items. I may need it someday, you never know. This plant requires very little watering, very little sun, & is every low maintenance. My kind of plant!
So what do you think of my ice bucket planter? I thought it was a good find & adds a fun element to the coffee table. I can’t wait to show you the coffee table before & after. Operation ” no more brown” is in full effect 😉 Have you made a planter out of something strange? I would love to hear about it.
