As I sat down to type this I feel like I haven’t been very clear about what we are doing in the kitchen & sunroom area of our farmhouse. I blogged [this update here] last week about ripping out our kitchen island and some vague plans we have. Maybe it’s because I’m not so sure what is going on either… It’s kind of a day by day thing as we go. What’s the plan right now? Well, today the floors are going to be ripped up in the sunroom & kitchen. I know a lot of you liked the floors in the photos I shared, but they weren’t going to work for us for a few reasons. 1-they didn’t go through to the sunroom & we didn’t like the separation of flooring from wood to carpet 2-we didn’t love the texture of the flooring. It was super high maintenance to keep clean. 3- It’s just not what we pictured in this room, so we are choosing to change it. I could go on, but anyways we spent some of our weekend emptying out the sunroom & getting it ready for the floor to be ripped out today…
Here is what the sunroom looked like a few weeks ago…
& now today after we emptied everything out to get ready for demo…
You can see things that I didn’t share in photos like that ceiling fan and the kitchen area. Our overall goal for the flooring in the sunroom & kitchen? To be cohesive & really bring the two spaces together to make it look like one big cozy room. For this project we actually hired out a handyman to help us for a few reasons as well like 1- we are crazy busy at the moment & we aren’t scared to ask for help. 2- we are working on other projects in the house that we find more enjoyable. 3- We started to rip it up & decided some heavy duty equipment that we don’t have would make it much easier. Again, I could go on, but I’m just so excited to have a fresh start in this space as of this week.
& there is the whole kitchen/sunroom area, or at least one side of it all. I CAN’T WAIT to make progress in this room & make it our own! Another question you may be asking is, why did we decorate this space if we knew that we were going to rip it up? Well, first of all our theory is always to make a space our home no matter what state it is in. Whether the space is “finished” or not we try to make it a space we love even if it’s temporary. We also had no idea what the timeline looked like for the sunroom & it wasn’t supposed to be now. But after some deliberation we decided that it was the best idea to do the sunroom & the kitchen at the same time. So here we are. I can’t wait to show you the progress when all the floors are ripped up & ready for the flooring we chose. It’s kind of unconventional & we don’t have the whole thing decided, but I will be sharing asap with you guys. Stay tuned!
