I wanted to introduce you guys to someone. Some of you will laugh at me & some of you will totally get it… but I knew he might need a little explaining & a little introduction because he is a little different, but oh so very handsome….
Meet Handsome. He has been on my mind for a few months now. Let me explain. I frequent a lot of antique stores & there is this one here in GR that carries the best antique portrait paintings that I never knew that I needed until I saw them. A few months ago I spotted handsome hanging in their shop. His name wasn’t handsome then.. I just referred to him as the “man portrait I wanted really badly” shortened to handsome when we finally got him to White Cottage Farm. He was wearing a black suit coat & had a smug look on his face… the colors in his portrait were so unique, dark, & just plain handsome. I had to have him. & then for some reason I talked myself out of it telling myself that I didn’t need a portrait in our house of a man that I didn’t know. But after leaving I thought about him often as we were working on the house I would look at corners where I could hang him… & this week after finishing the floor painting I spotted a corner that was perfect for him so I went to the little antique shop & sure enough he was still there. Right up front waiting for me. How in that much time no one else snagged him up… it was a sign that it was meant to be.
So, here is handsome… hanging in our dining room in this perfect little corner. Will he stay here? Not sure.. we are busy putting rooms back together after painting the floors so things have been moving around & shifting more than normal these days. You know this whole process of living in a fixer upper is a weird one to navigate because we are decorating the parts of our house that aren’t quite renovated… living in those spaces & sharing them here on the blog… & then renovating them. All while collecting things along the way… They always say “A room should feel collected, not decorated.” & that is what we are doing over time here on White Cottage Farm… collecting the treasures for each room & we are having the best time doing it! Thank you guys so much for stopping by the blog today!

I totally get it..and..I love it!
I totally get it! When a piece just speaks to you and stays in your mind it is meant to be, especially when it is still there when you go back. Can’t tell you how many times I have walked away from something that spoke to me and kicked myself later for not picking it up….
I love Handsome!
I think I get it…but I have to also think it’s creepy too!
Good for you! I love Handsome, but I L.O.V.E. his reflection in the mirror…just sayin’
Have a great weekend!!
I think he looks perfect there! I might not put paintings of random people in my current house from the 60’s, but I’d definitely use a few if I had an old farmhouse. That’s the dream for me!
I love him and I totally get it! The same thing happened to me with a portrait of a woman I saw at an antique store. She is hanging on my wall right now courtesy of my best friend who heard me talk about her so much she bought her as my birthday present that year!
It’s perfect! The portrait shows your personality and gave life to the room! I love that it can not be bought by the masses and is unique to your home. Great find!
Love Handsome too! I have a few portraits in my home and have names for them too! Keep doing what you and hubby do so well! You are a beautiful couple! XO
Love the portrait of handsome! What’s the name of shop? Do they sell on line ?
