I don’t know if you caught my excitement in that title… but I’m so excited about this!! You see… since we have moved into this farmhouse of ours, one of the big things that has been bothering me is the carpet! I’m not hating on carpet at all, it’s great. Carpet is cozy & can be great in many homes & rooms. For us? It’s just not happening in this farmhouse. We are too messy for carpet… and all of these muddy feet & animals call for a floor that isn’t soft and absorbent. We aren’t classy enough for carpet! haha. We have been ripping it up out of every room & now we have moved on to the upstairs….
I NEVER share our upstairs with you guys.. like, ever. & that’s because we have never touched it. That all changed on a whim this week when we finally decided to hire out for help removing the carpet in our upstairs… it was the best decision ever! We hired a team to come in and remove all the carpet upstairs in every room [yes, it was also in two bathrooms] & then lay down the 10″ planks like we did downstairs. So in our bedroom, the guest bedroom, & the hallways upstairs there will be the 10″ pine planks. The bathrooms will come later… but for now they will just be the sub floor.. I mean, it’s not worse than carpet at least.
The cool part? They also removed the carpet from the stairs! That means we get to do something fun with them as well! It’s been so long since we have done any major renovations to our farmhouse & I’m so ready to start back up again!! I just wanted to pop on here today to talk about this, but I’ll be back asap with a bigger flooring update… oh, & check out that wallpaper! haha that will be going away very soon as well! So, here is the beginning of the upstairs renovations I guess. That feels crazy to say! I hope you guys are as excited as me.. well, that’s not possible, but I promise this will be a fun makeover… thank you so much for stopping by the blog today & everyday to see what we are up to! xx
How exciting! Cant wait to see it finished!
Those stairs are STUNNING ?
Hooray for new floors! I love the lights in the hallway. They have so much character. Do you know their story or age? I can’t wait to see some more progress! ❤️
I know your so excited about the flooring going in, it’s a really big deal. I think I know how you feel I remember doing ours. I can’t wait to follow along with you on this journey.
Woohoo so exciting!
How Exciting!! I know it’s going to look Amazing!
Inquiring minds want to know: Are you planning to keep sconces (not the current ones, I’m sure! ) in the hallway upstairs? I kind of like the idea of them.
So exciting! We have carpet we hate in about half of our rooms. But the rest is engineered hardwoods which we also don’t love. Trying to determine how many years in our house is worth replacing all of it. This makes me want to. Beautiful!
Gahh your house is my dream… I am constantly on the lookout for something even remotely similar in my area… Your place gives me hope that I will find mine someday. You guys are beyond awesome!
So exciting! I love the few glimpses of the upstairs! Can’t wait to see before, during, and after!
Hi. I am a hardwood flooring mechanic with over 24 years in the field.
NO VAPOR BARRIER!!!??????????
SERIOUSLY?
If you had hired a true professional they would have told you that a $40 investment in a quality vapor barrier like Aquabar would have added decades to the life of your floor.
They also would have been able to install the floor tight with no gaps in the middle.
But hey you saved $40.
It’s going to be beautiful…i’m excited for you guys and looking forward to every new post. And wow…Bernie..subtlety isn’t your forte.
Your home is a dream. Seriously…my dream home!! Excited to see the upstairs update.
Well, I have to say I love the stairs. I wouldn’t touch them….but its not my farmhouse, is it? LOL!!
Nope. But their floor will be ruined in a few years without a vapor barrier. Every manufacturer will automatically void any warranty without it. That is an installer error that is actually a really big deal
Oh, cliffhanger! Lol! Can’t wait for peeks at what’s to come! My favorite IG and blog for sure!!! So inspiring with home decor and your animals melt my heart all the way down here in IL.!!!
PS. I cried right along with you when you learned that Grace had baby “B”!!! Beautiful!!!
How exciting!!! I can’t wait to see what you guys do with the upstairs!! I have no doubt it will be beautiful!!? Thanks for taking us along on your journey! It’s so fun and inspiring to watch!
I’m not sure why a vapor barrier is needed on the second floor. Would someone please explain? Bernie???
How exciting for you, it’s all happening for you and your farm family. Can’t wait to see updates, and no carpet!
How exciting!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!?
Liz pay know attention to trolls, you guys do great work, can’t wait to see the finished floors. Who puts carpet in bathrooms yuck.
Oh my goodness! I can not wait to this transformation!!! It’s going to look amazing! We’re not classy enough for carpet in our house either! ?
You don’t get out much do you.
Going through the same thing here in Brighton, MI. However we had house built 25 years ago, I knew then I wanted all hardwoods, could not convince husband, hallelujah all in now! He loves how clean are hardwoods are compared to carpet!
Yo dude it’s upstairs. You don’t need a vapor barrier upstairs!
According to nwfma guidelines you do.
I am a nwfma certified master craftsman and flooring inspector.
I am one of the guys that manufacturers call to inspect failed products and essentially assign blame. My reports stand up in court. But hey… what do I know
OH MY what a beautiful home ! I love it I have been peeking at your blog and all thats going on so Im so so excited for you ! cant wait to see the final look…thank you for sharing – your amazing and love your style – I have no rugs ;>)
When I had my 30 yr old carpets ripped out, It was beyond thrilling. I have photographs of the whole project and I don’t have a blog. One can’t equate the thrill of a great before and after to getting out, having just returned from Paris mere months before. My experience.
My stairs are steep and had a very short tread. The added nose, and I gained a solid inch and a half. Really thankful. Looking forward to seeing more of the upstairs and the make over. Very happy for you.
