Right after the holidays and with a new year, stripping away all of the extra is not only essential its good for the soul. We did exactly that with the bedroom, pulled off all of the winter greens and replaced them with a simple look, and some spring ready greens. When you pull out everything out of a space you have to either maintain or create a base layer in your space that will be the center of your design. For this space I wanted to start with this neutral bedding from Walmart. The bed is the anchor for most bedrooms, and depending on how you make your bed creates mood for your space. The thing I loved about this bedding is how subtle and classic the bedding is, with elegant amounts of texture, it reminds me a lot of the jars we have in our kitchen .

The area that we pulled all the decor out of was the ledge above bed. I treat the space just like a mantle, and accent it was a lot of items that I am loving, especially for the season. Pulling the winter greens out I wanted to keep the greenery in the space, so I replaced it with some pathos that are great winter greens that easy to keep alive… perfect for the cooler season.

The styling of the ledge is another perfect example of balance. Again, trying not to get this style space so literal, but we balanced the larger wide mirror on the left side of the ledge with the two gold mirrors on the right. The hight and unique shape of the round breaks up the eye and starts a great balanced area. Since the middle of the bed is so large, we wanted to fill that space with some texture, that is where we place the the greenery of the pathos. Helping connect the eye, we horizontally stack books across the ledge. A little fun touch is the head bust with a hat on top to bring the eye back up toward the top edge of the mirror.

We kept the simple look of the bedroom with a nightstand and faux plant on the right side of the bed. This ties it all together helping dance the eye around the room and bridge the ledge to the bed.

One thing I really wanted to share about this space is that when it comes to decorating, we all think there needs to be a before and after plan… Let me tell you, there absolutely does not. When re-doing a space, if you are not quite sure where and how you want the room to look at the end of all the decorating… you can still get started if there are some elements that you know you want in the space. I know I wanted to have multiple pops of greenery and I had them on this ledge for a while… Just grouped together on one side.

This time of year, typically, it is quite dark outside with overcast clouds… So I wanted to add more natural light to the room. Now this room is well let with four windows, but using mirrors in a space can make the space look and feel bigger, also reflects lights and an “artificial” way to add light to a space, outside of additional windows. I used elements I already had to tie these things together and added those fun pops of the bust and hat and there is our styled ledge.

I love keeping my eye out for affordable ways to update a room… Walmart is a great source for affordable decor to bring your room together on a budget. I found an awesome group of neutral items that I brought into this space, in addition to the bedding. Check out even more of the natural decor from Walmart [HERE].

This cute throw was a perfect and light way to add an additional layer to the space, while keeping it light, airy, and simple. The night stand was another great affordable way to bring some structure into the space. Here a a few more neutral items that I could have added into this space.
Well I hope you enjoyed our Cozy Neutral bedroom and got inspired in some way for your next design. I love sharing little design tips, but also tips that help the process of design, like not needing a full fledged plan to start a space… If there are elements, especially ones you already own, add them slowly and you’ll be amazed when what turns out in the end. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today and every other day. XxLiz Marie

Beautiful room. Where do you get your plants that look so real?? They are beautiful.
I love the way this room looks 🙂 So soothing and relaxing!!! Can you please tell me what the wall paint color is and the paint color on the bottom part of the wall is? Thanks so much!
I Love the headboard but with all those items on it, how are they not falling in your head?
Living here in the Bay Area, we can not have heavy items placed above our heads in case an earthquake comes. So pretty much a lightweight wreath is all there is. ?♀️??
Lovely as usual ….but I am with Julie. How do you keep items from falling? Are some of them secured someway? Also….love the bed. Where did you purchase it from? Thanks!
How long are your curtains?
I hope that the mirrors are attached to the wall. I’ve been in earthquakes where everything goes flying. I’m always careful of anything I hang around any bed. It is a real things. Just some precautions for you to really think about. ❤️
I was thinking if, all those things like the mirrors are attached with hooks or something ?? Other,
wise if, a animal or something jumps on the bed
won’t they fall over??? ?
The Post-Holiday decor change is simply great! Your mixture of mirrors, books, plants, art work—
but all in very natural, comfortable tones——is a decorating homerun! But from you, no less would
be expected!

Where did you get the headboard/bed?
The new bedding looks so fresh & clean. The fringed throw adds nice texture. Same with the throw pillows. Couldn’t find it on the Wallmart website. Can you help me?
where did you get your headboard?
So I found the headboard….full size at the Pottery Barn Outlet in Jeffersonville OH for $709.
Oddly when I got back I had a message from Pottery Barn that the King Size head board was on sale for $489.
They did have a couple of the king size headboards at the outlet but I did not check pricing there as I was looking just for a full/double size. So I can not report outlet pricing for the King size.
The bed and headboard came together, they are from Pottery Barn. Here is the link https://rstyle.me/+zX3V3FTGvr0EzJLBywQ0bg!
It’s from Pottery Barn, here is the link https://rstyle.me/+zX3V3FTGvr0EzJLBywQ0bg!
I also really like the bedding – especially the comforter and the “polka-dot” pillow. And I also can’t find the items anywhere on the Walmart site. The links just go to the landing page. Maybe because I’m in Canada? Liz – any other direct links you can provide would be excellent 🙂
If it is taking you to a landing page that means it is not available in your country! So sorry!
The color of your room is so relaxing. I think it’s perfect if you put some air humidifier to make it more satisfying. 🙂
Hello Liz Marie,
I have a technical question about your bedroom. I have the same light fixture from pottery barn. It is the larger size one at approx 29in Diam. My walls are eight ft tall. The diameter equates correctly to the dimensions of the room. However, my problem is length is 24-29 inch long. My light fix it over my bed as well. What is the height of your walls. My light fixture seems like it is too long. I had it installed at the last link on the chain.
Thanks in Advance
