As many of you know we have sheep here at White Cottage Farm! Our children’s book We Belong To Each Other is the story of bringing baby Grace to the farm. Since we announced the book one of my most frequently asked questions is the linage of the sheep. So many of you know Grace because she was the first sheep to come to our farm. As a lamb, Grace was rejected by her mom and came to live at our farm. We bottle-fed her and kept her in the house until she was old enough to go out to the pasture. If you’d like to learn more about the story of Grace, head over here for a recap. I created a fun lineage graphic to show you our sheep family tree!
We have one ram, Papa, that is the father of most of the sheep on our farm. Papa’s brother is Weather, he is not an intact male he is a companion for Papa! Grace and Baby came to us from two separate farms they are not related but they are both have given birth to all of the rest of the sheep on our farm. Sadly we have had two sheep pass away in their time with us. There should be a few more lambs being born this spring, we will be sure to share when they are born and update the family tree after that! Sidenote: this is probably the last round of lambs that Papa will have [more on that later].
The sheep are a super important part of White Cottage Farm and we really consider them to be part of the family! The sheep truly are what completes our farm. We often get asked if we plan to add other animals to our farm & for now we are really happy with just having sheep. We do have some future plans for ways to change up our pasture, be sure to stick around to stay updated on our sheep! I’d love to answer any of your other questions about our sheep, be sure to ask over on Instagram or Facebook if there is anything else you want to know. Thank you for stopping by the blog today and every day!
