I am very excited to tell you that I am now a Behr DIY Expert! This was a title that they gave me, I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but I am am an expert at throwing caution to the wind & just painting things with out two extra thoughts & it usually turns out pretty great. So that counts right? I love using paint to give things a makeover so I am excited to be a part of the Behr team.
Way before I was asked to be a Behr DIY expert I was a fan of Behr products, so I knew this would be the perfect fit for Liz Marie Blog. First up, I wanted to bring you our back patio door makeover. Yes, our back patio reveal was already on our blog recently, but our door was a big part of the makeover & I wanted to touch on how we made it happen & how it has been holding up.
Our back patio got a huge makeover this past summer, which you can see all of the details {here}. One of the main key elements of making the patio looked finished. Are you ready to see the crazy before photos? It’s pretty ugly, but it helps to see the door before to get the full impact of what this BEHR MARQUEE Exterior Paint & Primer can really do…
It’s hard to see in this photo, but the door was white & had a lot of scratches and damage due to dogs, and just normal wear & tear. On top of that the door was quite dirty & needed a good cleaning & some minor sanding before I painted the door.
I cleaned the door using vinegar and water, & then lightly sanded with a fine grit sandpaper where there were scratches in the paint from the dogs.
Painting the door with the BEHR MARQUEE Exterior Paint & Primer was honestly a dream {& I purchased this paint before I became associated with them for all of you wondering 🙂 } I used two coats on the door & it covered everything & made the door look brand new. I didn’t need to prime since the Behr Marquee paint has primer built in { Yay to low maintenance paint!!} To paint the door I used a small angled paint brush and a roller. For the indented areas I went in with a paint brush & for the main parts I used a roller. This worked best for me, but you may find another method that works better for you.
I feel like the painted door really gave the back patio a finished touch & as I would have loved to use a more vibrant color, we decided to go with a subtle color with our green siding & the fact that we would be putting our house up for sale soon.
So, how has the door held up since painting it? Amazing! The door has seen lots of different weather. Lots of using going in and out, carrying items in and out of the door, bumping into the door with some pretty heavy items, & no chips or scratches. The Behr Marquee paint is legit & if you have an outdoor project that you are working on, I would say to check out the Behr Marquee paint for your job!
What do you think of the patio door makeover? Have you painted doors in your home before? I would love to hear about it! Leave a comment below, find me on Facebook, or chat with me on Instagram.
