We do not have a fireplace in our Michigan home. It’s never been a priority on our house wants, but when it comes to decorating sometimes I wish we had one. & on some cold Michigan winter nights I think it would be pleasant to have one too, but at the moment this house just doesn’t have one. So what do I do? I get creative & make my own faux mantel. We have this large “card catalog” in our living room. I say this in ever post about this large piece of furniture, but it’s not quite a card catalog, more like office drawers, but it’s easier to say card catalog.. so now that’s cleared up. I used my card catalog as my mantel & I’m thinking it made my neutral spring mantel pretty stellar.
You know I love my neutrals. & this spring mantel is just that. Subtle, neutral, & no filled with easter eggs, bunnies, or anything that is so obviously spring. Just a few spring branches, a boxwood tree, & more greenery. This space was kind of forgotten since we moved in so It’s kind of nice to have some lovely things on top of one of my favorite pieces of furniture now. First I put up three antique windows in the back, I kind of have big plans for those, but that will come later. I have my DIY hand painted Grand Rapids Antique sign setting in front of the windows & it kind of helps block our alarm system box, but yet it’s still accessible as well which is nice too. I then used my glass lamps from Hobby Lobby to anchor each side of the piece. I then layered some burlap vases from Marshalls, a glass jug false from Marshalls, a metal tin from Michaels, & a boxwood planter from Home Goods. I filled the vases with branches from Target & greenery from Michaels. I also added [what I would call] a tomato cage or plant cage decoration that I also picked up at Home Goods. Whatever it’s called has some major spring vibes & I’m digging it.
Mkay. Who puts a vent on the wall like that? So annoying when it get’s in my shot, but it’s real life haha. Thank you 80’s tri-level for that little surprise. What do you think of my neutral “spring mantel”?! I was kind of excited about it just because again, this is one of my favorite finds ever & decorating it is just plain fun for me. We still have a lot of work to do on this card catalog. To be honest we have only ever cleaned it & it really needs some major work to get it working properly & more durable & strong. It was used in a garage at one point in it’s life & it wasn’t well taken care of. I’m going to change all that & give it a new life. Anyways, let me know what you think of my neutral spring decor in the comments below, on Facebook, & find me on Instagram. xx

That card catalog is SERIOUSLY the find of the century! Beautiful!! Love the way you decorated it too. More in tune with seasons and not specific holidays. (Even though either one is great!) love it girl!
I think its gorgeous. You can always put up a thin screen tv above it and play the netflix fireplace to give it that extra warm feeling 🙂

Liz Marie what a beautiful “mantel’ vignette. I agree with Sarah, I love that it is decorated for spring and not holiday specific.
I really love what you have done with this card catalog. Love drawers. I have some of those necessary vents and plugs that are totally in the way of my decorating. If that vent were mine I would be looking for some nice tall shutters to stand under that vent to get the attention off of it. However it probably bothers you more than us as the arrangement on top is gorgeous.
haha love that idea Hannah 😉 xx
thank you Sarah.. I agree.. I’m not sure I’ll have another find like this! I’m in love with it. xx
Yes! I’m not a very holiday specific seasons besides Christmas… maybe one day I will be 😉 haha
