You guys.. I’m sorry, but I’m going to keep preaching on the power of paint. No, not just white paint like we have been using, but just paint in general. Holy cow it can transform any space in seconds! There were parts of this farmhouse that I thought could never be brighter without adding larger windows, but just with a few coats of paint they have completely became brighter. The front living room is mostly all painted minus the front door [which will be replaced later, but we are painting it for now.] Also, the wall by the front door with wallpaper which we will shiplapping over very soon. I quick snapped some photos on my phone right before the sun set today so sorry if you were looking for some pro photos today, but I just couldn’t wait to show you…
First let’s rewind to how the room looked when we moved in…
After we started ripping out the floor & the fireplace…
& how it’s looking today after we painted it..
In the mean time before we shiplap we did get the walls painted so that the whole room looked cohesive. Next steps… shiplap, sand the flooring, work on the fireplace, & many many many more projects. Sometimes when I write it all out I get super overwhelmed by everything we have to do to make this house our home, but I have to remind myself that we have forever. I hope you guys don’t mind following along with our farmhouse journey for forever. Thank you guys so much for supporting us and cheering us on through this journey & I hope you guys liked today’s update on the front living room! Be sure to follow on Facebook & Instagram for all the behind the scenes.
Liz, you guys are breathing life and joy into that house. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
Liz, that staircase looks so fresh and clean. What a difference a little paint can make indeed. The whole hallway/entrance has really opened up and looks beautiful. You definitely know what you are doing by painting all of that dark wood. Keep going girl!
Oh my gosh it’s so charming and lovely!! The window at the bottom of the stairs and the paneling–it’s all so amazing. And so gratifying to see it so transformed with the paint!
Wow, what a transformation. So much lighter and the details of the woodwork pop more the white paint. What color white did you use?
WOW! I absolutely love how paint has completely transformed the space! It’s so bright, airy and cheerful! I cannot wait until it’s done, because you know – as soon as you start decorating over the seasons, all of your items are going to pop! Oooo I can just envision boxwood wreaths hanging! EEK!!!
OH MY GARSH!!!! This is beautiful and it’s not even done….you have such talent and a great eye….and are so Brave, I’m a chicken for taking on these kind of things! LOOKS GREAT!
WOW! It looks bright, fresh, clean and twice as big. The woodwork is stunning and the white paint makes it pop. I can’t wait to see the shiplap on the walls…
Wow! So much brighter! I keep having the same revelation as we paint our 1870’s home-I think it’s just not going to be enough to lighten the room, but white paint never disappoints, does it?! Jealous of your fireplace! 🙂
SO gorgeous! I have to tell you, this makes me want to paint all my rooms white now!!!!! I love checking in to see what you guys are up to every day.

Looks fantastic! Not sure why anyone is against painting wood… I mean the wood is still there, the texture and dimension it adds to a room is still there, but painted white it’s just so more soft and calming. Can’t wait to see it finished.
Wow!! I’m in love with that staircase! ?
What color did you go with on the staircase? I love the transformation!
Hi! Stopped by after a long time! Out of context -lost my dad sometime back- couldn’t be brave enough. Thought about you many times, how brave you were during your loss(sorry to mention this). But really wanted to say that you are one brave woman!
Omg I love this! It really is going to make me look differently at houses when we want to buy. I’ve always looked a what they are now, not what I can turn it in to. Looks so lovely 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing your farmhouse journey. I look forward to reading your blog each day. It is one of my calming moments to sit down for meals or other quiet times to read in an otherwise chaotic day! I appreciate you sharing!
Can you share what paint color you used here? It looks gorgeous!
It’s beautiful I love your style
