This post is brought to you by “stop having things in your house that you don’t love”. I am the worst at this. THE WORST! I keep things around in our house for the wrong reasons like if it’s a popular item, others like it, people don’t want me to change it, I’m too lazy to make changes, and so on. I have really been making a point in our new farmhouse to rid our house of items that I don’t love. My point of doing this is to make this a home filled with people & things that we love & to get rid of the mess that might stress us out. Now of course this can’t all be done at once because of time & that pesky thing they call a budget, but it can be done with time & effort. This past week I took a little step in making a change to a piece I’ve had for quite a while. I picked up this table a year ago & I think I loved it for the shape & the top of the piece. The teal color was fine, but I wanted to make it a little more Liz Marie…
Here is how the table looked like before…
& after I worked a little magic with some chalk paint…
& yes, there are no photos in my picture frames yet… please don’t judge me. Soon! I promise! it’s not about perfection on this blog, it’s about real life. Anyways on the table I used Maison Blanche chalk paint in ivory. If you follow me on Instagram you saw me do this live & it didn’t turn out so great at first. I distressed it way to heavily with some sand paper & I hated it. To fix it, I simply dry brushed more of the ivory paint over the distressing & it came out quite all right. I left the top natural & it gives the table a little contrast & definition which I like.
Much more me, more more us, & I love it so much more. I hope in some small way I can inspire you to do the same thing in your house. Not paint everything white, but to make your house somewhere you love & look past what is popular or what everyone else likes. What do you think of our table refresh? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today!! xx
I love it! Your sunporch is so beautiful and relaxing. I can’t wait to see the rest of the house when you are finished! Love your blog!!!
I could so come and live in your home, it is so cozy, warm, and welcoming! I do understand having things around that you aren’t in love with, like my dining room table I’ve hated since I moved it into our home almost 12 years ago — not eligible for even painting because the style just isn’t there! I’d set it out on the lawn in the front yard if I knew someone would just pick it up and move it on out or my husband wouldn’t leave me for doing it! Anyway, yes, there are those things that we keep because we love them, those that we have because they are a necessity (at least at the current time), and those things that definitely need to move on — they just don’t fit in anymore and even paint won’t help! You’ve got it right Liz!
Thank you for the inspiration! I guess I’ll get someone to move that table OUT! LOL!
Nana 🙂
Thank you for sharing this, Liz Marie! I love how this table turned out and I love your “you do you” attitude 🙂 Your blog is one of my absolute favorites and I think your home is gorgeous and an inspiration. When I’m doing my home, I love the farmhouse look (and I love your farmhouse) but love so many other things too! I have to step back sometimes and say, what do I like? Not, “what is farmhouse?” but “what do I actually like?” Because if I do what I like and not just follow what the internet says is in, then I’ll like it for much longer 🙂 You do you, Liz Marie! You paint what you want to paint!
I love it in white too! Your sun-room is amazing – I would spend all of my time in there curled up with a good book and cup of coffee (or wine). 🙂
Beautiful! What are the dimensions of that end table?
