Hi guys!! I’m in Charleston today for this years Haven Conference which I’m super excited for, but I wanted to pop on here today to share a fun DIY we did the day before we left. It was kind of random, kind of weird, & it kind of turned out cute. It was super simple & took very little time. We turned an artificial branch into a DIY faux potted tree…
It all started when I got this large branch at our shop. I knew I wanted to do something with it, but it was honestly so big… like as tall as me big. So I didn’t know what to do with it & it just sat there. I had it sitting up straight & though… well that looks like a skinny little potted tree so by golly I made it into a potted tree with an old crock I had and a few other things…
This is how we made it:
-Place a trash bag into the crock and fold open on the outer edge as if you just placed it in a trash can. This will protect the crock in the event you want to remove the tree later on.
-Next, do your best to center the trunk of the tree and vertically level it. We had a piece of foam at the bottom of the crock to stick the branch into which held the stem a little. We then used two clamps to prop it in place while we spray the foam.
-Once leveled and centered, use Great Stuff Gaps and Cracks Foam Sealant (Link). This container required two full cans of spray foam. Allow it to fully cure and harden. Note: The foam does rise significantly, so only fill about 3/4 of the way.
-After it cured, cut away the exposed portion of the trash bag. Some of the foam did peek over the surface of the crock. We took fishing line as a cutting tool to cut it flush across the top.
-The last step, add moss to the top of the foam. We purchased a sheet of peel and stick moss from Michael’s, to be placed on top.
I didn’t have time to fluff the branches and straighten some of them out, but you get the idea!! Looking for some faux branches to use? Mine was a large cotton branch from my shop, but I found some [HERE], [HERE], [HERE], & of course you can find them at craft stores like hobby lobby & michaels. You can choose what size branch works for you.. I think a small one would be super cute!! Have fun with this project if you try it be sure to share it with me! Thank you guys SO MUCH for stopping by the blog today & everyday to see what we are up to. I hope you feel inspired every time you visit! xx
I love this idea!! I have so many big, old crocks just sitting here and there. Off to buy big branches and moss. Thank you for sharing!
PS… expanding foam is the best! ??
I love this idea!! ? I want to try it but with a real branch.. I wonder if it will work??
This is adorable and looks like so much fun! Off to scour my yard and my closets for supplies! Thanks for sharing!!!
