Well, a dream has finally come true this past month. We now have three front doors. Weird dream to have huh? Not really when I start to explain it to you.. You see, when we moved into this house it was a dream come true and a dream home for us, but like some people who buy old houses we wanted to make some changes to make it our own… so we have been busy doing that ever since we moved in. One of the big changes we wanted to make was to the front of the house. We eventually want to make a lot of changes to the front of the house, but these things take time, money, & planning that will all hopefully come with time since this is God willing our forever home. One project we saved up for & finally had completed was our front doors & it’s all because this was the darkest room in the entire home & it was a dream of ours to bring french doors to this space in our home. We wanted to turn the existing front door and the two windows in this space into three french doors, so that is what we did…
We used 5ft french doors that are Anderson brand that we purchased at West Michigan Lumber here locally to us in West Michigan. We had a builder install them as much of the front of our house had to be removed & our ceilings even had to be stabilized… big job for little us. We are blessed to know an amazing builder by us who goes along with our crazy ideas… couldn’t ask for more really! After the doors were installed the siding on the outside had to be repaired & the wall inside as well. We even removed that little wall that was inside so the room has for sure been opened up in a big way since we moved in. The project took the builders a week to do all of those things and more not listed like re-routing electrical and more. All in all we have no regrets & both think it was worth the mess, the money, & all of the time. I love how big this space looks now & how much light comes in…
This was the room during the process:
& how it looks today…
If you ask me what project I would highly recommend when living in a fixer-upper, it would be to add light! Invest in windows & doors because light always makes a space better… in my humble opinion. I honestly did not like this room before because of how dark it was, the weird layout with the wall & just the overall aesthetic of it. I’m not one for dark spaces & I really thrive off a lot of light so this room with the open feeling and bright light all day is slowly becoming a favorite. We did hang curtains on the doors which I will talk more about later, but we picked them up at Pottery Barn at one of their big sales recently & love them for the added privacy when we use this space. More updates on this room coming very soon! It still doesn’t feel real that this is our home & that this little dream of three front doors came true. Lots of work to do, but enjoying every single moment of looking out these doors & walking out them onto our porch. I hope this gives you a good glimpse on the progress of this space & for more behind the scenes, head to our instagram for daily updates! Thank you guys so much for stopping by the blog today & every single day to see what we are up to! xx
Awesome!!! Looks sooo much better and welcoming now, it’s aery, light and warm with all the palette of white to brown tones!
It makes the room look huge. Thanks for sharing. These are beautiful. Do you have a schedule for when you will be at the silos? I’m thinking of popping down there.
This is one of my favorite things you and Jose have done on your sweet house! I’m with you on brining in light!
Wow! That looks incredible! Your house looks like something out of a magazine (oh wait, you HAVE been in a magazine…lol).
So much more light and the room does look so much bigger! ?
Absolutely spectacular Liz! I agree that if you have a chance to add natural light to a space, do it! My hubby renovated our kitchen 3 years ago now and adding 2 windows, 1, 6 feet wide and the other 4 feet wide along with a full glass door to the north facing wall, ( which was do dark ) made a world of difference. We used to have to turn the lights on pretty much mostly everyday even in the daytime just to see what we were doing. It always felt so gloomy and depressing but not now. Amazing how natural light can lift our mood and spirit. Looks absolutely amazing! ?
Looks absolutely beautiful! I love everything about it.
Question though, did you paint your hardwood floors? They look great!
One word–STUNNING!!
Absolutely gorgeous Liz. All that gorgeous streaming light in the house is so good for the soul!
Love the light, but how do you keep cold Michigan winter winds from coming in when you open the door? Are you planning anything for the outside of the main entrance to trap winter winds and prevent air (heated or cooled) from leaking out?
How crazy that even tho I love everything you do, I was really worried about what “three front doors” meant! Holy moly the change it brings to that room is incredible! So gorgeous!!!
