Seriously Stylish Ceiling Fans

Last week I had the opportunity to head to Eastern North Carolina where Jose and Iived for 10 years. It was so funny  because it was the second trip in one month that I was invited on that both took me back to NewBern where we lived for the majority of our marriage. I almost took it as a sign.. like we should be there haha. But visiting was so nice & I’ll continue to do so because I really did leave a piece of my heart there. Anyways, this trip was with Hunter Fan Company & I’m so glad that I went! One thing I truly love about blogging is working with brands & companies that I truly love & learning more about them & all the behind the scenes. I am pretty picky about who I work with and where I go because honestly it has to be someone I love for me to leave my home & my shop… homebody for life here. But I also only want to share companies with you guys that I can stand behind & that I would use myself. & Hunter fans is one of them. For most of our trip Hunter Fan took us sight seeing around Eastern North Carolina & we had the best time with lots of laughs & seeing breathtaking places from Shakleford banks with tons of wild horses to Lookout point where we climbed a lighthouse…

The funny thing about Hunter Fans & my background is that when I was in design school my first job was at a lighting store & I would help builders pick out fans and lighting for their homes & Hunter Fans was always the number one pick not only for craftsmanship but also design. Now, what I knew of fans were that they were all kind of the same & a fan was a fan. Well, this trip changed my whole outlook on fans. We were able to meet and talk to one of the fan designers & it was so fascinating to learn about the process of designing the fans & made me appreciate them so much more. The first day we were in Atlantic Beach where we were staying at a beach house provided by Emerald Isle Reality, they revealed to us the makeover of the beach house & what it looked like before & after their design team got a hold of it. The rooms got a complete update with new decor & new ceiling fans & I couldn’t believe what a difference a simple fan change did for the rooms…

After we saw the beach house reveal we got to design our own rooms around the fan of our choice. I picked the Mill Valley fan in matte silver & designed an outdoor space. I chose a farmhouse vibe for my mood board with black and white accents filled with tons of greenery. I was inspired by the town of beaufort that we got to explore while we were down there. You can see the homes that I saw in Beaufort that inspired me [HERE].  I really think we need this mill Valley fan at our farmhouse. My favorite par about it? It’s rated for indoor & outdoor use! We got to present our mood boards to the group which was totally fun to see how different our designs were around the fans & it brought me back to my design school days which was fun because the school I went to was 5 minutes up the road from where I presented my hunter fan board. How crazy is that? I would have never thought in a million years I would be at a beach house right down the road from my college 6 years later presenting a mood board to the Hunter fan team. Never!

Here are some other Hunter fans that totally inspired me on our trip. I can’t believe how stylish fans can make a space!? If you would have told me I would be obsessed with a ceiling fan a few years ago I would have laughed at you, but now look….

mint fan// black fan// aged oak & brass fan// white & brass fan// black rounded fan// white fan with gold cage// bronze fan with aged blades// white fan with aged blades//

It was impossible for me to share enough photos or words to describe the whole trip, but I hope you get the idea of what an awesome trip was. A huge shoutout to Hunter Fan Co. & the Zimmerman group for the amazing trip & for all the inspiration. Thank you guys so much for stopping by the blog today & for checking out the fans I learned about. What fan is your favorite?! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram.

Farmhouse Decor From Ikea

A few weeks ago on my 29th birthday I did what most people in their late 20’s do… go to Ikea for a fun filled day of shopping for our home. Isn’t that what the cool kids do? Well, I’ve never been a cool kid so I guess that doesn’t matter. Jose & I learned a valuable tip: Never go to Ikea on a rainy Saturday, you will be taken away by a sea of people throwing pillows & shopping for sofas. It was a mad house. None the less we had a great time & we found a few farmhouse decor & I thought I would share some of those finds with you guys here on the blog today…

Farmhouse Decor From Ikea - The best farmhouse finds from Ikea styled in a farmhouse.
Here are the above items as Jose wrote on our farm blog, TheWhiteCottageFarm.Com:

This faux Murraya is great on each side of the entryway inside or out. Also with proper scaling these look great on the top step of the porch. [Link Here]

Looking for a potter for the Murraya above, put it in this galvanized plant pot. [Link Here]

Finish out the look with this metal watering can. This piece adds just another level of detail to the design, and if you have any real plants around it can do what it’s meant for. [Link Here]

This light is one of my favorite buys from the IKEA trip. This over-sized metal lamp is a wonderful anchor to any space. [Link Here]

This dish towel fits in perfect with any farmhouse style, one day when we our kitchen renovation is over, we will fully be able to use them. [Link Here]

We picked up a few of these vases and have them placed around the house with flowers in hopes of speeding up this cold weather March and bring spring in. [Link Here]

Lastly, we bought three of these cushions for the three white metal chairs we have at our dinning room table. [Link Here]

& here are some of the items styled in our home now. We don’t have them all styled, but most of them & I caught a few shots with my cell phone today to share with you guys how well Ikea decor fits into our 1800’s farmhouse…

Some boxwood tress on our back stoop & by our front door along with the metal buckets & black watering can.

The chair pads on our white metal chairs in the dining room. The chair pads add a cozy farmhouse vibe & also make the metal chairs a little more comfortable.

Some of the tea towels in our dining room.. so pretty that we can even keep the drawer open. The tea towels there are so cheap, I highly recommend buying a whole bunch on your next trip to Ikea. Also those lovely greens in those pots are Ikea as well… I also recommend picking up a ton of those on  your next Ikea trip to place in all your vignettes in your home.

& lastly those clear glass jars styled on top of our piano as you can see above. They are the perfect vintage inspired vase for any room, & again, super affordable! Also, that sectional is Ikea as well which we’ve had for years & love!  I’ll share more of our Ikea finds soon, but for now these are working great in our fixer upper. As you know most of our house is in complete demo mode so it’s so nice to have a few areas semi-decorated in the mean time & doing it on a budget is pretty easy with these farmhouse finds from Ikea. What are some of your favorite finds from Ikea lately? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today! It means the world to me! xx

Cottage Greenhouse Guest Bedroom

Want to know what’s really like me to do? To start a room without a plan. I seriously just realized I do it every time. Not when I’m assisting others with their homes, but when I’m doing my own.. I just start the demo process & fly by the seat of my pants. It’s the way I roll & I guess it works for me, but It’s hard to convey to others what I’m thinking when I roll that way. Well, we have the whole lower level guest bedroom torn up & I started painting it, so I thought I would share the inspiration board I just threw together for the space now that we have it all torn up. Because why would I have this plan when I started? If you follow me on Instagram [HERE] I’ve been sharing tons of house progress in my Instagram stories & I’ve been sharing lots of video updates  as I work in that room.. I’ll be sharing more of the process on here soon, but for now I just wanted to share a little bit of what is in my brain as far as inspiration here on the blog with you guys. I started with some carpet ties from Flor.Com & built off of there. I really wanted to bring a cottage greenhouse vibe to the space with buffalo check, lots of greenery, an awning over the window, metal accents, a white daybed piled high with cottage linens, & so on. This room will mainly be used as a sitting room, guest room, & also a workout room. So it will be serving a lot of purposes & I want it to feel inspiring, fresh, & full of life.

This is just some inspiration for the vibe of the room. A lot of details were left out, but I will be back with those as we go. I’m excited to share the progress of the room & my vision as we go. I’ll be back later this week with how the room looks now. I ripped out the carpet, closet doors, & some other things out of the room this week so it’s already looking like a whole new room! Let me know what you think of the vision in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. I look forward to hearing from you! xx

Yesterday I blogged the state of our kitchen [HERE], it’s awful right now. Want to know what’s keeping me sane? Continuing with the design process & the dreaming. I’m still picking out finishes, dreaming about decorating the finished space, & shopping for items that we will be using in our home. Even though the kitchen is on a stand still due to us finding some water damage, the continuation of planning & working on things we can has kept me super motivated. So, while we wait I’ll be sharing my shopping adventures here on the blog. We will also be having some major updates soon in the kitchen that I will be share even though we are dealing with the water damage in the connecting sunroom so stay tuned for that. Anyways, in one are of the sunroom/kitchen we are debating adding a flush mount light somewhere in there so only daily Amazon trip today I spotted a few that I like & I wanted to document them here for future reference… I also figured it could help some of you out who are looking for a good farmhouse style flush mount or semi flush mount light. I hope this helps!! Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below, on Facebook, or on Instagram, & which one you could see me buying. I look forward to hearing what you have to say! With a book as good looking as this,  I had to do a mini book photo shoot around the house with my i-phone. I had the complete honor to receive the new book, Old Home Love by Andy & Candis of Old Home Love Blog, this week & I’m still in shock. The book is absolutely gorgeous & I couldn’t stop reading & flipping through to see all the gorgeous photos as soon as the mailman dropped it off on the porch of our old home. Andy & Candis are old home restoration pros & they specialize in 1800’s homes which our farmhouse is from that era so it’s fun to watch their adventures. Have you head they have a new show on HGTV as well? How exciting is that? Anyways, it was an honor to receive their book & after reading it this week I have been so inspired to dive deeper in our farmhouse fixer upper. After getting their book this week I realized I had never really shared some of my other favorite design and garden books with you guys so I shared some above that I am obsessed with & some that I can’t wait to pick up. I love reading blogs, browsing pinterest, & getting inspiration on social media, but there is something about having a hard cover book to browse through & to make you feel inspired by the inspirational writing & lovely photos. I totally suggest picking up Old Home Love & also checking out their blog & TV show as well if you haven’t. Now I’m just waiting on my copy of Floret to come in the mail… what is your favorite interior design & garden book? Let me know in the comments below, on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram! What started tonight as me finding a kitchen pendant for over the sink [I love the pendant shown above from Overstock!] turned into me gathering up some awesome galvanized decor for you guys. I also wanted a few pieces for our shelves in the front living room & so many of these items would work so well for those as well. I think one way to really bring the farmhouse look into any room is adding some touches of galvanized metal like a tray on a coffee table, some chairs around the dining room table, a light fixture, a mirror, & so much more. It’s a great way to add that rustic touch & it really adds a different texture as well which is always wonderful. I really think I might get that light fixture for over our sink… what do you think of it? Do you like adding galvanized pieces into your decor as well? I gathered some pieces here from Pottery Barn, Amazon, Overstock, & Target… where do you like to buy galvanized metal pieces from? I love finding authentic metal farmhouse finds, but when that’s not possible these are great too! You guys! I’m currently sitting in our bed with Jose laying next to me sleeping. He’s so sick right now & I’m so worried about him. & of course when I worry, I can’t sleep. So, here I am doing some online shopping & blogging because those things are my happy distractions & that’s what I need tonight. We are looking for a rug for our front living room right now & it needs to be a large rug. My first instinct is to go for a jute rug which are my favorite, but I’m wondering if I could go with a neutral wool rug or if that would be a big mistake in the long run. I wanted to share some rugs with you I found tonight that are options for our front living room because I figured you guys would love to see the options & possibly love some of them as well. You an shop the rugs by clicking the numbers below the collage photo above or by clicking the individual photos above. Shopping for rugs is a love/hate relationship because I feel like the decision is so final, but I have to remind myself that rugs are replaceable, cleanable, & if it doesn’t work for our current space we are working on it could work in a different room. I’ll be sure to keep you updated with what we decide! Which rug is your favorite? What one would you pick for your home? There are more rugs included in the individual photos below the collage as well that I couldn’t fit, but loved as well. I hope this post helps those of you who are looking for some neutral rugs & thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! Wednesday’s are my day to be at the store all day. Don’t get me wrong, I’m there most days, but it’s my day to open and close the door and handle most of the responsibilities. So on Wednesday nights I’m pretty tired & I always set aside time for tv & web browsing.. it’s quite glorious with a cup of tea & no worries in the world. During my relaxing time tonight I was browsing on Amazon & I noticed at the bottom of my screen I kept getting suggestions for pillows. I thought I was seeing things because all of the pillows were crazy affordable. I recognized some of the pillows as ones that I have seen in real life in some people’s homes & I knew I had to share these deals with you guys. All the pillow covers above are under $10! I shared on Instagram this week that I am kind of sick of the house being cold and lifeless. I mean, it could be the fact that 90% of it is torn up and under construction, but the 10% that isn’t in demo mode & is looking decent needs some life. So, i asked if you guys would be mad if I started slowly bringing spring into our house.. most of you that responded said you would be perfectly fine with it. So yesterday I blogged my new chunky wool blanket from Modern Wool [HERE] that I had purchased recently. I chose to share it because I’m obsessed with the blanket, the quality, the look, & everything about it. It truly brought a lot of joy to my holiday season & I was so happy to finally own something I had been looking at forever. They were even so kind to offer me a discount code that I could share with you guys [see discount code here]. I also know you guys know that I don’t share anything that I purchase if I don’t love it.. which is the best thing about blogging to share things with you that I love. I got a lot of comments about the price of the blankets & it’s so true that the chunky knit throws from Modern Wool reflect their superior quality. Honestly, I wish you could all feel it for yourself! On Instagram I was chatting with some lovely readers & they asked if I knew of any chunky wool throws that were a little cheaper than the one I featured, & of course I wanted to find some for you guys because I know not everyone wants to spend a lot on a blanket. I found 10 more affordable ones & shared them above [you can click the corresponding number below the large collage or the individual photos below the numbers to go to the listing of each blanket]. The only thing is about these chunky wool blankets, is that I can’t share my review of their quality or how amazing they are because I don’t own them. These chunky wool blankets above are all still from small handmade shops which I love supporting & I hope that this list helps you if you were looking for an affordable chunky wool blanket.
