With just moving into our Michigan house three weeks ago I actually found it really hard to find the energy to decorate for Christmas. It’s not that I was too tired & sitting around at the house doing nothing, but it was the fact that I wanted to put my energy into other things like fixing up our home, painting walls, & more. But I did want to have a little bit of festive decor in our house so I decorated our master bedroom, & one our sitting room upstairs. I wanted to share with you what we did to show you that it doesn’t have to be complicated or in today’s terms, “Pinterest worthy” to be beautifully festive for the holidays. By adding a Christmas tree, some wreaths, some plaid, & cozy pillows I made our living room Christmas ready in no time at all. This time of year is meant to make memories with your families & friends so spending less time decorating for Christmas & more time stress free with your loved ones is a beautiful thing. Here is a small tour of our Simple Cottage Christmas living room that I did this afternoon before one of my good friends came to visit… hope you enjoy!
I asked on my Instagram today when everyone plans on taking down their Christmas trees & I got a bunch of different responses & it’s so interesting to me how different we all are! This year I think our tree & decor is coming down right away after Christmas because since we just moved in I really want to get to decorating our house the way we want it with out the Christmas decor in the way.. does that make sense? I just want to see our new house as a blank slate so I can get to rearranging furniture, & putting things in their spots. For now though I am enjoying the cozy Christmas decor, the glow of the Christmas tree, & basking in this beautiful time of us finally living here in Michigan during the holiday season. What do you guys think of our Christmas sitting room? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram!

For somebody that moved in just 3 weeks ago it looks pretty darned great to me. Not easy to do, getting things unpacked then having to decorate for holidays too, you deserve a big gold star girl. Your room looks very cozy and your tree is gorgeous. Decorating a tree that size takes awhile on it’s own, Great work already. Can sure understand how you’d want to get to every day projects but maybe with Christmas it’s way of telling you to relax for little while at least til after New years. Hope you have wonderful holiday in your new home. Happy days
Love it! And you’re right, it feels super cozy!
My favorite thing about moving and the feeling of “starting fresh” – i love it!
This is so cozy and warm! I came across your blog today in the midst of looking for reviews of the Ektorp Ikea couches, which you convinced me to buy. jaja. I love how you keep your furniture neutral and add pops of color for different occasions. I’m doing some upgrading on our early 20’s home purchases and your blog has me inspired! ALSO, I noticed your sign for Grand Rapids, MI. I’m from GR, but relocated to FL after my military service in NC. Anyway, I’m excited to browse your blog!
