Sorry if you guys came here for pretty photos today, but a lot of what we do these days in the house is not pretty & it’s quite frankly just plain messy. The room is torn up, the walls are not painted, the floors are unfinished, but this is progress guys! Remember a while back when I created a poll [HERE] on what we should do on the walls in our guest bedroom. Well, it took me a while to decide, but the decision has been made! It’s not shock, but we decided to go with lovely classic shiplap. With a little twist of course. The shiplap in there is just getting started & farm from done, but I wanted to show you where we are starting & the progress we have made so far…
You see that angled wall by the window? It made our decision a little more complicated when we were picking a wall treatment for the space. Ultimately we decided to go with shiplap that goes 3/4 up the wall around the whole room. We will be capping off the top of the shiplap with a decorative moulding/shelving, but we will get to that later when we make more progress. This little room wasn’t bad before, but it needed a wall treatment to amp up the charm in here. We have shiplap throughout the rest of the downstairs of the home so I love that it will also be cohesive with the rest of the home. But I also love that we are doing something different by only going up partially on the wall. Like I said before I’m not sure what we are doing with the top of the shiplap if we will have a shelf or just a piece of moulding & also what color we will be painting the wall above the shiplap, but we will get to that when the time comes.
Hopefully the shiplap will be done by the end of this week so we can make some progress in this space. Also, more on this room later because we are about to test some paint & stain on these floors! I can’t wait. Stay tuned this week for that fun project. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today & for all your help on making the big decisions here in our farmhouse. Ya’ll are the best!! I will keep you posted all week here on the blog & on my Facebook & Instagram with all the updates we make in this space all along.
I love the look of that shiplap and would really like it in my house. We have a wall at the end of the living room that would be perfect for it. I can’t wait to see how you finish it.
Do you have a blog post about what type of wood/ pain you use for your ship lap?
My studio floors look very similar to your floors and I have procrastinated finishing them because I am so afraid of losing the white( ish ) color to them. But they need to get protected ASAP. Any suggestions on what to use to keep the color as close to it’s natural color but also keep it a more flat shine? I don’t want a heavy poly look. Can’t wait to see this room finished!
Hi Liz! I’d love to hear what you use for ship lap! You’ve inspired me to tackle the bathroom.
Hi Liz!
