I’m not going to lie I am so tired tonight as I sit here with my cup of tea watching netflix with the Jose. I’m so thankful that it’s Thanksgiving week & that tomorrow night starts a long relaxing weekend because this girl needs some rest & some good food. Even though I was tired tonight I still wanted to pop on here and share something that I’m in love with & that I hope inspires you in your holiday decor this year…
A couple weeks ago my friend Ali from Mustard Seeding Beginnings [HERE] created a sign for us for Christmas & it was so much fun planning it out with her. First we had to come up with what we wanted the sign to say… Of course I landed a verse at the beginning of the Christmas story… “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night” Luke 2:8 Not only because it’s the beginning of the greatest story every told, but also because I feel a close connection to those shepherds now. We get to be shepherds to our very own mini flock of sheep & that doesn’t even seem quite real yet. Mind you our life of being shepherds to our sheep is so much different than theirs, it makes me appreciate all they did for those flocks of theirs. Also, I can’t imagine standing in my field at night with Grace & the other sheep & having an angel show up in person to me… not sure how I would react. Anyways.. I loved the verse & love that it’s on a sign now. We chose a black background which I love because this verse happened at night. Want to know how big this sign is? 5 foot by 4 foot! It’s a big one. Ali freehanded this painted sign & I’m so impressed with her work… I couldn’t do this if I tried… well, maybe but it would never look this good. Thankful for talented friends who share their work with me. For now I styled this piece in our back living room, but I’m not sure where it will end up permanently. The crazy sheep lady in me wants to put a mantel in our barn & hang it over that with stockings for the sheep. But I’ll refrain. Maybe.
I styled this piece with fresh greens around, some mini faux Christmas trees, & some mercury glass accessories from Homegoods. Those red pillows were from Pottery Barn last year & they are still some of my favorites. Honestly having creative friends is so inspiring & I’m so thankful for those in my life who encourage me creatively & also make me pretty things for our house. I love supporting my maker friends & feel honored to also have a lot of those maker friends in our shop, The Found Cottage. I’m one lucky girl! I’ll share with you guys where we hang this piece, but who knows it might just stay here. What do you guys think of this large hand painted Christmas sign of ours?! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. xx

Hi, Do you know where I can buy the black and white chargers that have a petal pattern on Joanna Gaines blog and on Pinterest? Thanks, Linda Bene
For DIYers, it would be a great post to explain how such a sign is made. What materials were used, if it was totally freehand, or were the words lightly written before painted, what was used for the lettering, etc.
Though this is holiday specific, the technique could be used for year round signs, putting Bible scriptures on the walls to edify, every day.
Wonderful sign. And yes, a even better story of our Lord and Saviors birth. Being a tiny 570′ farmhouse owner myself , I love all things farmhouse and your blog is one of all time fav blogs. Your style is lovely. And the farm critters are too sweet. The sign would be adorable in the barn with a shelf under it filled with vintage sheep statues. In my old home I had my chicken coop decorated with beautiful wallpaper and hand painted vintage nesting boxes and a chandy too. Yes,, the farm critters should live in style also. While I think it is a bit too early and rushed to see bloggers homes dressed for Christmas, especially before Thanksgiving, I do have to say yours is the only one I have really enjoyed looking at so far. Such a lovely home. God bless you and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
I love the sign, and the way you’ve decorated it, thanks for always sharing. I pray you and your husband have an enjoyable/restful holiday.
That sign is the most precious thing that I’ve seen this holiday season! A sweet reminder of our precious Savior’s birth! Thank you so much for sharing! May your Thanksgiving be restful and filled with joy!
nice idea! I am gonna try this
I just love your new Christmas verse sign! So personable, and lovely. And the way you have accessorized with the fresh greens is perfect!
I would love to see a tutorial done on this.
