I can’t tell you how many “found” dreams have come true this week. First it was my dream pillow yesterday [HERE] & then we finally got my dream butcher block island that we found into our unfinished kitchen. We may have not had a kitchen since February, but it really has been coming together more and more recently. You guys know that we found the most amazing old store counter for our big kitchen island [HERE], but many of you don’t know we have another part of the kitchen that needed another island as well….
You see, we have an indoor grill on the opposite side of the kitchen from the sink/stove area. As many of you remember we covered up the stone wall on the side of the kitchen that our indoor grill is on [HERE] & no we will also be adding doors in front of the grill and also a cabinet in this area as well. Because the grill is on the other side of the kitchen from all of the counters we needed to create a little workspace to use by the grill. The dream was always to have a butcher block island & quite frankly I really didn’t think it would happen because wow those babies are pricey!! Well, “found dreams” do come true my friends… After putting some feelers out to some picking pals of mine we found the most beautiful butcher block island that is out of an old grocery store here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s the heaviest, thickest, & most loved on butcher block I’ve ever seen & it’s everything I could have ever wanted. The legs are also original to the piece & make this butcher block a true work of art. The best part? It was totally affordable & the best price I had ever seen on one of these gems. Getting it in the house was difficult because of how heavy, but with some family & a prayer that our toes would be spared it was finally in its spot. Then it was time to clean the big baby. It actually wasn’t too dirty, but obviously we were going to be prepping food on it so we used some good soapy water [a few rounds of that] I used my Mrs Meyers soap in my favorite apple cider scent. I’ve been really trying to switch our cleaners to more natural ones lately & I think for the butcher block cleaning that is a great idea. You can find more of my natural cleaning products favorites [HERE].& we the cleaning of the island finished with some good cleaning with coconut oil & it was as good as new.
The island before..
& after a good scrub…
Ok, that didn’t really show how clean we got it.. but trust me, it’s clean! Of course now it’s basically a catch-all until we get a functioning kitchen [which should be very soon!]. Right now it’s holding my new kitchen haul from the Hearth & Hand line at Target [See more of my picks HERE]. When we started our kitchen remodel we basically got rid of all of our kitchen supplies after 10 years of marriage it was time for a fresh start. I’ll be sharing more photos of this space & this piece when it’s not piled with all of our goods while our kitchen is being worked on, but I was too excited about this piece not to share. What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram! Thank you guys SO MUCH for stopping by the blog today!! xx
Love this butcher block!! I’ve also been looking for a good deal. I found a beautiful round butcher block in an antique store a few years ago. It was a great price and I should have bought it. However, at the time I didn’t have the room for it. Now that we’ve moved to our forever farmhouse I can start looking again. If it’s meant to be, I shall find it.
I ran up to Target as soon as I could but the colander was gone. Quite a few things were sold out, which was a shame. I managed to snag a few good things, thanks to your blog post on Sunday. You are an enabler! I love the new butcher block and I can’t wait for a kitchen update. I seriously check every day for one! You are in my prayers. I have had a lot of loss in my life so I know how hard it can be.I know God to be gracious even when our heart is broken. Blessings to you.
Very Pretty! Can’t wait for the reveal! I just received mrs. Meyers package and my scent is Iowa pine. Would love to smell apple cider scent! Love your blog.
You have a wonderful blog. I would love your readers to take part in the forthcoming Canadian visa lottery 2018 and register now.
