A few weeks ago I was searching through a Land Of Nod catalog & saw a lovely piece of art on the walls. & than I read that the artwork was simply blown up postcards. Duh! I am always trying new ways to make art for my home. I wandered down to my local coin & antique store & found some amazing postcards to blow up & hang on our walls. Here is how we ended up creating our own DIY postcard art.
This little wall is in our unfinished dining room & it just needed some simple art so this DIY postcard art was perfect especially paired with my awkward little gold deer head from Marshalls that I found while I was in Boston last week. I love that the art looks like it belongs in an old cottage. Just my style!
Here is my little haul of postcards & stamps from the antique shop. I went a little crazy & I think I have a new obsession. Just what I needed! I chose the top two postcards on the right for my art in the dining room so I took them to Staples & had them blown up to 18×20. Now to make those simple frames…
We took two pieces of trim board & cut them to the two different sizes {8 boards- 4 18″ & 4 20″} to make the two frames. All the ends were cut to a 45 degree angle to easily assemble the frame. I than stained all the boards with Minwax stain wipes in walnut. When the boards were dry I stapled the boards together in the corners. For this simple project, I just stapled the blown up postcards to the frames without any backing, but you can go about this a lot of ways. This project was so easy & in less than 30 minutes I had two simple frames.
Please excuse the dining room floors in our historic rental, they are not in the best shape, but they have character right? The dining room is slowly looking more complete everyday & I should be able to show you the whole space really soon. I’m actually loving this whole decorating a rental thing. What do you think of our postcard art? Have you ever done anything like this with postcards before? What do you do with postcards & stamps? I would love to hear from you! Leave a comment below, find me on Facebook, or chat with me on Instagram. xx
