I’m so excited about this reveal!! For the longest time now, I would say 8 months, I have wanted a piece of furniture in this little awkward spot that splits our kitchen/dining area & our upstairs living room. & Mr. LMB made the best piece custom just for the spot! Seriously… can we all say it at the same time? “You are the best Mr. LMB!” I tell him that everyday, but I can’t say it enough. Anyways, he made this custom piece out of, wait for it….. OLD CLOSET PARTS! Yes, this lovely kitchen bookshelf is made from most all recycled pieces. Most of them from when we remodeled this house. How cool that we used old parts of this house we love to build something newer & better. We really hate to waste anything around here, & this pieces just proves that. This piece is essentially a bookshelf, but since they are in the kitchen we are calling them DIY kitchen shelves. You dig? Here it is in all it’s glory after Mr. LMB built it & I painted it & styled it….
Here is how the space looked before we put this new piece here…
It looked great in my opinion, but one thing our kitchen is lacking is storage! I really wanted this DIY kitchen bookshelf to be functional. It’s been so nice already to have the additional storage. I styled the shelves temporarily, but they will most likely be changing very soon as we discover what works best for functionality for the space. I am loving the eclectic cottage vibe it adds to our little casa as well…
On the shelves at the moment the most important thing at the moment is the dog bowls & the dog food. It feels like such a custom thing to have a dog station built right into this lovely piece of furniture that the dogs love using. It also keeps it organized & clean which I’m happy about. The dog food bowls are from Painted Fox & the dog food container is from World Market. We have only 3 drawers in our kitchen so towel storage is lacking, so I have a basket filled with towels & rags that are easily accessible. I also stored some of my vintage mason jars which I don’t always use, but it’s pretty storage for my collection & that just makes me smile. I then have three glass jars from world market holding sugar, gluten free flour, & brown sugar. Next to them are measuring cups and spoons from Anthropologie. I cooked tonight [I know shocker] & having all the measuring cups out next to the things I needed was so handy. I may have patted myself on the back. Above that is a plate holder from Home Goods & mason jars from World market that hold our silverware because oh yah did I mention all our drawers are too tiny for a silverware organizer? So this way the silverware is just ready to grab when you need it & easy to put away. Above that is just some antique finds, but I plan on storing things in that ceramic pot up there or replacing all of it with a storage basket, we will see. Above that is a metal basket that’s heavier than me holding a coffee cup tree, chalk board, some antlers, & other odds & ends. I can see this piece constantly evolving so stay tuned for that!
Want to know how Mr. LMB built this beautiful bookshelf out of closet doors?! Head on over to his blog, craftsmandrive.com [here] & see how to build your own. You might be really shocked to see what it looked like before we painted it. Speaking of paint I used Maison Blanche Ivory for this piece. I love the warmer white tone in our house. Shocker that I love white, but I love different tones of white & this warmer ones has my heart.
Oh my goodness. This piece just has my heart. I can’t wait to try new ways to style it & find what works best for our function in our house. Be sure to head on over to Craftsmandrive.com to see how his awesome creative brain created this piece. I hope you guys love it & I can’t wait to hear what you think of it! What a great shelf! And it does a great job dividing the space 🙂 Love it!
Nice work as usual lady! Love it!
Awesome! Such a great use of space that would otherwise only be to hang an item or two. Love it!
Fabulous! It really finishes off the space and marries the two rooms! And how special that it is made from pieces from the home. Love the story it tells. You and your honey always dazzle!
Love the antlers and the ampersand!

Thanks for th good info!
First of all I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I’ve had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there.
I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually
lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
Cheers!
