I have really been pushing to “finish” our upstairs living room. It’s been since January that we got our new sofas [here] & that I started on giving it a mini little makeover. At this point I just want it to feel complete. I may switch things up later, but I am sick of looking at an incomplete room. So, this past weekend Jose & I did a few projects to finish the space off. One of those projects was a DIY bench. At the entrance of the living room there was a big empty space that opens up to our “entryway” which really just the front door, but I wanted a visual cut-off point. I ultimately had in mind two upholstered chairs next to each other, but after months of not finding exactly what I want, I thought a bench was the next best thing. I did find a bench that I loved, but something happened to it a few weeks ago, that I just had to share here.
Well, I’m not going to name names or even hint at who this is because I know he was super embarrassed. But I just had to share… We had a visitor at our home who happened to be quite a built man. He was no 100 pound guy, but not huge by any means. I had picked up a bench at Home Goods a week prior to his visit & the bench had sat were this one is today. As he was talking to us he took quite a hard seat on the bench & it completely collapsed beneath him. He landed on the floor on his back & all anyone could do, including him, was laugh. It was hilarious. Even though it was $100 down the drain for my wallet, it was worth the laugh & maybe worth the story? Who knows. But after that little incident I was out a bench & that’s where Jose entered when he made me this one…
Seriously, I will say it again. I love when I tell Jose I have a vision & he brings it to life. This bench was made by the one & only Mr. LMB & was a better replacement to that Home Goods one may it rest in peace. We built this whole bench around [this cushion] & these old spindles that I had in my collection. See what I mean when I say we needed something to be a partition from the entryway & living room? This bench works perfectly for that. For this bench I really wanted to use my cushion from Pier one that you can buy [here]. I have always loved this cushion & I pretty much want one in every room. Want to know how to make one for yourself? Jose shared on his blog today how you can make one: Craftsmandrive.com [here]
I painted the DIY farmhouse bench with Maison Blanche chalk paint in Ivory. Who knows if the bench will stay here or for how long, but with a color like Ivory it will literally fit anywhere in our house which is nice. So, what do you think of the bench that Jose made? This is another lesson of “If you can’t find it, just make it. Or have someone make it for you”. Good life lessons for a Monday. I hope this post inspired you in some way & helped those of you wanting to make a bench. Be sure to go to Craftsmandrive.com [here] for the full tutorial. Love the terrarium! Also wanted to say, the furniture at retail places, such as Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, etc., I just don’t think are made to last. So your bench you had from Home Goods might not have lasted long anyway. Lucky for you you’ve got a husband who can make things for you!

Very descriptive post, I loved that bit. Will there be considered a part 2?
Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to learn a whole lot about this, for example you wrote
the e-book in it or something. In my opinion that you can do with a couple of % to
power the message home a lttle bit, however aside from that,
that may be excellent blog. A fantastic read.
I will certainly be back.
