Do you ever have that moment where you didn’t know you were lacking inspiration until the inspiration hits you? Or gets delivered to your door? That’s what happened to me this past week. I am so blessed to have many creative & talented people in my life & one of them is Holli from Hollihocks. She is an artist, a mom, a wife, & a fellow creative who I can relate to so much. We happen to live in the same town & she is also one of the talented people you can find at our shop, The Found Cottage. You have seen many of her pieces in our home, but last week when she was showing one of her recent pieces I KNEW that I wanted to create a halloween look with it in our home…

Her recent drawing is called witch’s feet & it’s so clever! Sometimes you see the same old thing used for halloween decor & art, but leave it to Holli to put her own creative spin on it. So, she came to the farmhouse and dropped off her recent drawing of the Sanderson sister’s feet from Hocus Pocus at our house & just like that I had the inspiration that I didn’t even know that I needed for my next halloween look.

I created a halloween look all around the drawing that Holli did & here was the inspiration behind the look: I wanted to create a cozy reading corner that I wrote about so much in my book [HERE], but in the perspective from a witch. I asked myself what a witch’s reading corner would look like & this is what I came up with…

For the cozy witch’s corner I imagine what a witch would have in her reading corner. I came up with brooms, breakers for all those spells, books of even things, family portraits of fellow witches, candles, & of course her pointy shiny shoes among her cozy things like we all love. I think they key to halloween looks is layering… For halloween I think that layer of different items can add to that aged spooky factor. A few added elements to give it more of that authentic spooky look. In the beakers I put colored bubble bath, I made sure the candles were burned down to give them that used look, & of course I added movement to the space with large bats [here] & small bats [here]

All in all I think this cozy witch’s corner is a fun halloween look that can be done anywhere, but I chose to recreate it in the corner of our dining room where this slipcovered chair is. You can get your own witch’s feet print [HERE] from Holli’s shop. I hope this post inspires you to create a witch’s reading corner in your home for halloween. You can see my other halloween looks [HERE] along with fall looks if you are feeling like you need some more inspiration.

Liz Marie,
Sadly I’m going to have to stop following you, I can’t afford it anymore, what’s a girls to do?
Okay just kidding – but seriously, the need to replicate all the looks is real!!
Loved the print sooooo much, had to order one immediately, cannot wait to make it the star of my own halloween display.
I’ve followed you from the beginning, loved meeting you and Jose at the show, love the book, love the shop, keep up the great work and unbelievable inspiration.
Now this old retired gal is going to look for a part time job so she can continue to decorate!
This is why I follow you! It’s creative on a different level… It’s unusual, and classy; not the “cutesy” and same ole! Great job! 🙂
I love that you set this from the perspective of a witch, everyone needs a cozy space. The artwork is beautiful and I love it
This is my favorite Halloween look, ever!! So creative and cozy. I would try to replicate this, but I’m sure it wouldn’t come out this wonderful. I’ll just be here staring at these photos for a while❤️
Can you share where you got the wonderful small side table? Thanks, Ruth
I love when you share the story you create for your inspiration! It reminds me that home is a feeling, and that I want to approach my decorating the same way.
Your vignettes are so amazing!!!!!!! Cutest thing I have seen so far this Falloween season!
Literally all of my Halloween dreams came true with this cozy witch corner blog post!! You struck Halloween gold here and I cannot stop staring at it, dreaming of living in the 1600’s. Ok, maybe not quite but your talent is definitely worth obsessing over! ?
I ordered the witches feet too…amazing!! I’m so inspired by you!
I know that I’m going to get a heck of flask for saying this, but I’m so confused – you follow Christian beliefs, right? Why would a Christian decorate with witches? Don’t you know what they stand for? You make gorgeous things, Liz Marie, but this as well as past posts, reminds me that you are a panderer. You compromise your belief system in order to sell products and make pretty pictures. If you don’t stand for anything, you stand for nothing. I wish you and your beautiful family all the best.
Good Moring, I just joined your website & I’m looking forward to all of your ideas. I was born & raised in Grand Haven on Lake Michigan & I am excited to come to your store. I love your decorations for Halloween & the fall.
i really like the halloween feel of those pics, though I never seem to be able to achieve that with my own efforts. Looking forward already to 31st Oct !
I looked at the print before I read your blog and, of course, had none of the clever ideas you had when you saw it! I laugh sometimes because I have many of the same things in my stash as you, but don’t think to combine them as you do so you are quite the inspiration! Thanks for sharing. Love this reading corner.
Love the while space but really loving the chair. Do you mind sharing where it is from?
I think it is very bold of you to speak your mind and heart. When people put their lives out on social media they should be able to take the good/bad. Good for you!
