OH you guys.. I could just cry. The house is starting to have some dramatic changes inside & outside & that means we are getting closer to having kitchen & a finished space! Last week I updated you on our sunroom windows [HERE] that FINALLY went in & started our kitchen/sunroom remodel full force. You see, in order to start that large room makeover we had to fix some bad leaks & that included getting all the windows replaced. getting all of the windows replaced set in motion a lot of things needing to be changed like the inside trim & walls, but also the outside siding as well. That was a big issue until we came up with an idea for the exterior of the sunroom while visiting West Michigan Lumber [Where we have been getting all of our building material for our renovations] the other day…
What the house [sunroom/kitchen] area looked like before…
& with some progress last week…
& with tons of progress this week…
We were going to have a heck of a time trying to match the siding up after taking out the old windows because we were going with smaller windows & changing other things up with all of the repairs. Also, the area by the kitchen window was changing a lot because we were removing the bay window in the kitchen & replacing it with regular double hung windows. The solution we found? Vinyl shingles! We chose these ones [HERE] in colonial white. The shingles look pretty darn authentic to cedar shake shingles that you would find on an old cottage in the woods or an old farmhouse the thad been given a fresh coat of white paint. The best part? Other than adding more texture & detail to the house it also solved the issue of having to match siding to the old siding of the house. Ummm yes please! I’m still undecided if we have to match the siding paint color, but it might help if we power washed our old siding. But who cleans a fixer upper when you are working on it? Not this lady.. sorry.
The Windows we went with were Anderson 400 Series, Double Hung with SDL Grills for both Sunroom and Kitchen windows.
Holy progress right? The yard is a mess, the house is a mess, but honestly just the fact that these windows are in & the fact that we now have the exterior of the sunroom and kitchen looking better it makes me so happy & hopeful that by winter we may have a kitchen & our house may be looking more like our vision we have for this house of ours. It’s crazy that I feel like things are taking so much time with our fixer upper, but then at the same time looking back at what we have done in just one year that it seems like we have done so much. Crazy how time does that to you. What do you think of the exterior sunroom progress?! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. xx
Looks SO GOOD!!!
Very nice!
No wonder you’re excited! Such wonderful progress, and the dream of your kitchen being completed is in reach. I love seeing each step toward your home being complete, but the kitchen fascinates me the most. So happy for you!
Windows look great! I wouldn’t add shutters with all the character and detail your house has. It’s beautiful as is. ?
So exciting! Can’t wait for the kitchen reveal 🙂
Gorgeous! I love how it’s all come together. You know what would look extra fab, window boxes!! *swoon!* Must be so nice to have a new kitchen window as well! 🙂 yay!
Did you think about lime-washed brick? That would be a great accent to other parts of your exterior!
The windows look wonderful, seeing everything come together is just the best thing ever ❤
